Reading is my favorite.

That is not the case for everyone in my family. For some of them it makes them want to shut down. Others rejoice when they know it's reading time. They all love it when I read out loud. (Which is one of my favorite times of the day.) So I want to make reading as fun and inviting as possible. I know there is so much value in reading aloud, learning to read, and understanding what you've read.

They are working on word cards together.

I am using the tracking chart Read Aloud Revival shared the other day on her Instagram. When I saw it, I had to print it out. It is a free download by Everyday Reading and Hadley Designs. I love it! They have 2 different sizes to download and print. I printed the small version for now. I am totally excited to print the large version for our homeschool room. This can be for any family, you don't have to be a homeschooler.

10 Summer Reading Rewards

Make reading fun by using this list of 10 Summer Reading Challenge Rewards.

1. Make a fun bookmark - You can print these super cute bookmarks and make them together. Or this one. Or use this list that has a ton of ideas.

2. "Late Night, Date Night" - They get to stay up later than usual and play a board game with mom and dad. (For us we will do this one boy at a time. They will get to stay up 20-30 minutes later than their siblings.

3. Choose your own adventure - Create an adventure list of free or low cost adventures for your family to do. Here are a few ideas we will use on this list. • Pick a new park to visit • Family Hike • Day at the zoo • Visit a splash pad (we have a few at local parks that are free) • Beach day • Geocache adventure • Family bike ride

4. Dessert Night - They choose the dessert and help make it for the family. (You could make a list of easy desserts for them to choose from.)

5. Treasure chest- choose useful things to put in here. I dont want to bring more trinkets and toy clutter into the house. So here is what I will put in our treasure chest. • small Lego sets • art + craft supplies (pipe cleaners, paint, paint brushes, popsicle sticks, googly eyes, slime making supplies, art paper, felt, beads, pearler beads, markers, crayons, colored pencils, and oil pastels) • chalk • bubbles • traditional puzzles or 3D puzzles • word search, soduko, or crossword puzzles

6. Choose the next family read aloud book

7. Buy a new board game or card game and play it as a family.

8. Choose dinner and help make it. I will make it's of 5 dinners everyone likes for them to choose from.

9. Movie Night - they can choose a movie you already own or do a rental if a movie they have wanted to see.

10. End of summer party with friends!

What are some ideas you have or have used in the past? I'd love to hear them!
