Part One of this Series
Have you tried goal setting before and looked back over the year to find that not much has changed or you had trouble following through? Me too.
We all remember when we were in school and being forced to write out our goals or new year's resolutions. We would slap something on a piece of paper and forget about them almost immediately. There was never any action behind them, at least for me. That idea stayed in the back of my mind but I was living my life more on accident then in purpose for many years. The idea of setting goals and making them actually happen seemed impossible. I would sometimes sit down and write out where I wanted to be in 10 years. Again, there would be no actions behind it or steps to actually follow through.
The new year can be exciting and overwhelming when it seems like everyone is setting goals and choosing a word for the new year. When I started my business a few years ago I knew that goal setting would be essential to actually getting anywhere. When January rolled around, I would create a list in my mind, pick a word for the year out of thin air and tell almost no one what I planned to work on. Imagine my surprise when I would get to the end of the year and be almost exactly where I had started.

January 2018, I switched things up a bit. I began by asking myself questions. How can I come out from behind the curtain and live in who God has called me to be? How can I live in freedom and still be honoring to Him? I asked what really matters to me? After some thoughtful prayer I picked 3 personal goals, 2 business goals, and my word for the year was intention. I shared them with Pat and a few close friends. As I am reflecting over the year, I have actually made progress in all 5 areas. It has not been perfection but little by little I have made progress. That has been my focus, progress not perfection.
This year I stumbled upon the Cultivate What Matters Planner. It is right inline with where I have been heading on my goal setting journey. For the first time ever, I started prayerfully considering what the Lord would have for the new year. Pat and I have taken time to pray together and really figure out what matters to us. I have also chosen my word for the year and completed my power sheets prep work. I can’t wait to share all of this with you. As I walk into 2019, I'm praying that I can use my small space of the internet to encourage and inspire you to live with intention in the ordinary moments. These are the moments that actually matter.
